RVCC President Elected to National Position

Big news on the local education front, as the president of River Valley Community College has been elected to a prestigious position.

President Alicia Harvey-Smith was elected for a three year term to the board of directors for the American Association of Community Colleges. She will serve with 31 other members in overseeing 1,123 community colleges across the nation.

The group’s purpose is to create and recreate a vision for AACC and to determine appropriate organizational performance. The AACC meets three times each year, in the late summer in Washington DC, at their fall meeting also in the capitol, and during the annual convention each spring.

In addition to the primary responsibilities in this new position, Harvey-Smith will also co-chair the AACC Commision on Academics, Student, and Community Development as well as the Commission on Communications and Marketing. Her role on these commissions will help provide advice and encourage collaboration among the nation’s community colleges.
