Veterans Memorial Park Approved to Get Improvements

The parking lot at Claremont’s Veterans Memorial Park is set to receive a much-needed facelift thanks to a unanimous decision during Wednesday night’s city council meeting. The decision authorized a little more than $5,000 be spent on the project from the city’s capital reserve fund to resurface and pave the existing dirt lot.

Councilors said the city will save some money by using paving crews already working on various road improvement projects throughout the city. Veterans Memorial Park is home to a small playground, horseshoe pits and softball field used by Stevens High School and the city’s adult softball leagues. The site was also the former home to the city’s outdoor swimming pool which was filed earlier this year.

The city is exploring the idea of expanding the parking lot over the site of the former pool, though no official decision has been made of yet. Available funds will also go toward resurfacing the infield of the softball field.
