We start with a significant development in a story we brought you earlier this week as well as earlier this year. The house and former dentist office belonging to incarcerated tax evaders Ed and Elaine Brown, have been sold in the latest round of bidding.
After receiving no bids during the first auction for both properties, the Department of the Treasury Internal Revenue Service opened a second auction earlier this week and Plainfield businessman James Hollander bought both properties. Seven bidders expressed interest in the properties but Hollander’s bids of $205,000 and $415,000 for the home and office respectively allowed him to take both properties.
It took officials around two years to sell the homes following the Browns being apprehended by federal authorities after an armed standoff. Both Ed and Elaine Brown are serving prison sentences at separate facilities elsewhere in the country.
