Revised plans for a new palliative care center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center were submitted to the Lebanon Planning Board earlier this month.
This development moves the project’s location from Dartmouth College property to hospital property. According to the Valley News – if approved – the move would give hospital officials more control over when the 30,000-square-foot, 12-bed facility can be completed.
Original plans had the building located on land south of Hitchcock Loop Road on property owned by Dartmouth College, but city councilors and residents raised concerns during a public meeting this summer over the environmental impacts of rezoning the land. Revised plans have moved the building’s location to land on the west side of Hitchcock Loop Road, which is already owned by the medical center and approved for medical center use.
The facility’s anticipated opening is in 2017, with original estimates putting a slightly more than a million dollar price tag on the project.
