Sunapee Police Officer Awarded for Going Above and Beyond Call of Duty

A Sunapee Police Officer received a major honor late last week when he was presented the Congressional “Above and Beyond the Call of Duty” Award by members of New Hampshire’s congressional delegation.

Officer Timothy Therrien earned the award for his actions early January 4th during a structure fire at the Georges Mills County Store on Route 11. Officer Therrien evacuated nearby homes shortly after 1 a.m. while the building was burning, but was unable to alert the owner of a home directly adjacent to the fire where he knew an elderly woman was living alone.

According to a press release, Officer Therrien was able to gain access to the then smoke-filled home, and remove the resident with the assistance of two other officers.

Therrien was presented the award by Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte, as well as congressman Frank Guinta and congresswoman Ann Kuster.
