Residents of Hartford, Vermont will get a chance to weigh in on a proposal that could bring sidewalks to one of the town’s most rural villages during a community meeting Wednesday night the West Hartford Library.
The stretch of road – along Route 14 by the library and Quechee West Hartford Road – is a popular route for pedestrians, including hikers using the nearby Appalachian Trail head.
The town is seeking assistance by way of grants from Vermont Transportation Alternatives and the Vermont Bicycle and Pedestrian Program, which could fund more than 80-percent of the project. Wednesday night’s meeting – scheduled to begin at 6:30 – fulfills the requirement to hold a public town forum necessary to qualify for the grants.
A consultant will than use input from tonight’s meeting to generate a formal proposal to be submitted to Hartford’s selectboard.
Town officials anticipate that process taking some time, and don’t expect to see a formal proposal until after the new year.
