CLAREMONT – We begin tonight with an update on an accident on Route 11 in Claremont Monday that severed a utility pole and forced officials to briefly close a portion of the highway.
According to Claremont Police Chief Alex Scott, a black BMW sedan driven by an unidentified male crossed the centerline while traveling east on the John Stark Highway, before crashing into a utility pole near the Beaver Pond Farm stand. The driver emerged from the wreck unscathed and admitted to a bystander he had fallen asleep at the wheel.
Chief Scott said the call came in shortly before 3:30 Monday afternoon, and crews had both lanes open around 5 p.m. Crews from the Claremont and Newport police departments responded to the scene, as well as New Hampshire State Police.
Utility crews were pack on the scene Tuesday morning, finishing up final repairs on Fairpoint’s DSL lines.
Crews told YCN News all utilities would be back up and running by mid afternoon.
