Dangerous Washington Street Intersection Receiving Improvements

CLAREMONT – Longtime commuters of Washington Street may have had any number of risky encounters at the intersection of Washington and Bowen Street. The New Hampshire Department of Transportation is beginning work on this particular stretch of road that aims to ease transportation through the area and reduce the amount of vehicle crashes that occur there.

In 2011, the DOT completed an audit report about a section of Washington Street from Winter Street to Roberts Hill Road.

Officials concluded that a the high number of accidents happened because of drivers making left hand turns out of places like Auto Zone across the painted meridian line.

The audit says that from 2002 to 2010, 188 crashes happened in this area of roadway and officials are now beginning work to permanently reduce the frequency of collisions.
