CLAREMONT – A vice president of the Claremont Soup Kitchen’s board of directors unexpectedly resigned Monday night after a closed-session meeting.
Board Vice President Bruce Howard stepped down from his position as a result of the meeting, telling the Eagle Times that “there are many activities going on there that are of great concern to me, and I’m not comfortable being part of an organization I have no confidence in.”
Monday night’s meeting came on the same day that former soup kitchen board member and director Melissa Norton sent a letter to the board and the State Attorney General’s office expressing concerns and requesting a formal investigation into activities at the soup kitchen.
The Claremont Soup Kitchen operates Monday through Friday from 4 to 5 p.m., and is open to any resident of Sullivan County. The board of directors is scheduled to hold its annual meeting next month.
