Sunapee Girls Soccer Roll Over Newport in Double Local Action

Well it was a wet one in Sunapee Tuesday as the school’s girl’s soccer team faced off against Newport in a non-divisional rivalry game.

And while coach Miles Conney wasn’t exactly pleased with his team’s effort when the squads met earlier this month in Newport, yesterday’s effort was more than acceptable with the Lakers shooting their way to a one sided 6-0 victory.

The home team showed its dominance early to the tune of a 3-0 halftime lead, benefiting from a goal by junior Katie Frederick and a pair of scores from Sydney Clark.

Clark capped off her hat trick early in the second half when the score made it a 4-0 game, before scores from Mary Grzanna and Hanna Cooney rounded out Sunapee’s scoring. Anna Pysz played well in goal for Newport, as she filled in for the team’s usual starting keeper who was out with an injury.

Mike Pezone spoke with Sunapee coach Myles Cooney after the game, who touched on just how far his team has come since its 2-1 win over the Tigers three weeks earlier.
The Lakers will try and win their third straight game on Saturday when it hosts Pittsfield for homecoming weeken=d.
