CLAREMONT – The Stevens boys soccer team reclaimed the coveted Bernard Cup on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over rival Fall Mountain at Monadnock Park.
It was the 44th annual playing of the memorial game honoring the life of Charlie Bernard – a former Stevens soccer coach who also had ties to the Fall Mountain school district. Charlie’s brother, Ray Bernard, was on hand for the game with members of his family, and awarded Stevens the Cup after its victory.
Parker Moote, Colby Hussey and Noah Spaulding each found the back of the net for the Cardinals, while Ethan Sweet and Drew Grenier added assists. Tanner Durkee stood his ground in net, turning aside each of the four shots he faced.
The win was the Cardinals fourth straight, and fifth shutout of the season. Coach Jason Stone’s team is now 7-1, and will host Mascoma (2-7) on Tuesday. Fall Mountain is now 4-5, and will travel to face Mascenic (4-3-1) on Tuesday.
