Lt. Governor Phil Scott Anounces Run for VT Governor’s Office

The pool of republican candidates for governor got a little deeper today with the announcement that Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott will run for the state’s highest office in 2016. The 57-year-old Northfield native made the announcement this afternoon in a letter to supporters, saying he will be a steady hand at the helm, and provide balanced leadership that values listening.

Scott will join retired Wall Street executive Bruce Lisman in a Republican primary, while House Speaker Shap Smith and Google Executive Matt Dune have already announced runs on the democratic side.

Democratic Governor Peter Shumlin announced earlier this year that he would not be seeking a fourth term in office.
