Hartland Resident Announces Run for Vermont Governor’s Office

A Google executive and former Vermont State Senator has officially announced his bid to succeed Peter Shumlin as the state’s next governor. 45-year-old Hartland resident Matt Dunne made the announcement Wednesday morning via email, becoming the second democratic candidate to announce a run for governor. V

ermont House Speaker Shap Smith made his announcement last month, while another potential democratic candidate in Sue Minter is also said to be considering a run.

Dunne finished fourth in the democratic primary back in 2010, where he was outspent by Shumlin by a 3-to-1 margin. Money may not be a problem this time around, however, as Dunne’s raised more than $200,000 in the past two months alone before having officially entered the race.
